“Our calendar is showcasing one of Laguna’s best natural resources, it’s great looking men,” said calendar producer, Fred Karger. “We are extremely proud of how well it came out, especially because it was an all volunteer effort. ALL proceeds from the sales of the Men of Laguna Beach Calendar go to support our efforts to SAVE the BOOM – Forever!!! http://www.savetheboom.com/ and to local Laguna Beach charities.
Over 50 people volunteered their time and talent to make this first ever calendar possible. The result is the hottest all male calendar on the market for 2008. The Final 12 were selected from the 35 men who tried out at an open casting back on July 7th of gay and straight men. The field was narrowed down to 20 Finalists and then to the Final 12. All 20 Finalists appeared on AOL’s QueerSighted.com, which had 1.2 million page views and 350,000 votes cast in 3 weeks, as well as a vote in the Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot Newspaper. A panel of judges then picked the 12 men, one for each month, and awarded the top finishers cash prizes. Caleb King, was the 1st place finisher and won $1000.00 and is featured on the cover of the calendar. 2nd place went to Gustavo Marzolla and there was a five way tie for 3rd place.

The calendars will initially be sold on line, and will be sold at some in stores in Laguna Beach soon. A launch party is planned for later next month to officially kick off the Christmas and Holiday’s sales blitz. The calendar retails for only $14.95 and will make the ideal holiday gift – one that keeps on giving for the next 12 months!

“Special thanks go out to everyone who helped put this calendar together,” added Karger. “Over 50 people were involved from start to finish, but we at SAVE the BOOM!!! want to give a huge thank you to both celebrity photographer Cris Lapp http://www.cristopherlapp.com/ who did took all of the amazing photos, and to our Graphic Designer extraordinaire, Brad Mayo http://www.dayonecreative.com/ who did the incredible design work on our calendar”

The panel of judges considered a variety of results before this decision was reached.

Calendar Open Casting Promoter and SAVE the BOOM!!! Treasurer, Judge Shane Miller said, “This was one tough choice. First we had to pick the Final 12 -- very difficult, and then to pick the top three was a really tough call. I now have great respect for all judges of every major pageant in the world from Miss Universe on down. All 35 men who tried out, the 20 Finalists, the Final 12 and now our 7 prize winners were all incredible and deserve a huge debt of gratitude from all of us at SAVE the BOOM!!!”

Special thanks go out to all the volunteers involved in the contest and particularly to celebrity photographer, Cris Lapp http://www.cristopherlapp.com/ who took thousands of photos and came up with these great shots that will adorn our first ever Men of Laguna Beach Calendar. Special thanks go out to Graphic Designer Extraordinaire, Brad Mayo and his company Day One Creative http://www.dayonecreativ.com/ for the incredible look of our calendar. And thank you Peter Montgomery and Michael Scales for doubling the original 1st place prize money to a grand!

And a huge thank you from everyone involved with the Men of Laguna Beach Calendar goes out to Kenneth Hill, Managing Editor of AOL’s Queersighted.com http://www.queersighted.com/ who’s site has helped promote our calendar by creating a portal that has seen over 1 million page views in less than 3 weeks and as of today there have been over 350,000 votes recorded for the 20 Finalists. And thanks go to everyone at the Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot who’s full page color spread of all 20 Finalists led to a big response in their on line poll as well. These two polls were considered, but the panel of 4 judges was responsible for making its decision, and that decision is final.

Calendar Producer and SAVE the BOOM!!! Founder, Fred Karger stated, “We will have the hottest all male calendar for 2008 on the market and 100% of the proceeds will go to help SAVE the BOOM!!! and to local Laguna Beach charities. I hope that everyone who supports our 1½ year effort to SAVE the BOOM – Forever!!! will go on line and buy lots of these amazing calendars. They make an ideal Holiday gift and will be fun to slap on your wall for all to admire.

We will be announcing our web address soon for purchasing these collector item calendars on line.

Last Sunday, Bi Coastal Laguna homeowner Steve Wozencraft invited a group of friends up to his mountain top estate to watch the sunset and sip champagne and cocktails. The views from Steve's many decks as well as inside the house were all spectacular. Thank you, Steve!

Closing Night Memories from the Old Boom Boom Room - September 3, 2007

Thousands of partiers and lots of media descended upon the landmark Boom Boom Room over the long Labor Day Weekend. Here are lots of pictures from the night the Boom closed those famous corner doors on Coast Highway and Mountain for a while. The bar ownership of the last 7 years is gone and we're expecting brand new owners will be coming in soon to open up the remodeled New Boom.
